Salary / Rate: £35000 to £40000 per annum + pension, professional fees.


A great opportunity for a CHARTERED or INCORPORATED CIVIL ENGINEER with around five years’ or more experience post graduation to join a top firm of consulting engineers in EDINBURGH.

You will work on a wide variety of major infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Technical Director of the Roads Team you will be responsible for the production of the development, assessment and reporting of scheme option and preferred route development through DMRB stages and through subsequent statutory process and procurement stages.

You will be responsible for production of roads design incorporating environmental mitigation measure and preparation of statutory orders.

Also procurement of external surveys and services.

You will review design and drawings done by team members or others for compliance with design standards and best practice guidance.

You will prepare technical reports and ensure that quality and consistency of technical outport of drawings and reports is maintained.

You will work in accordance with the Health and Safety legislation e.g. CDM Regulations and other codes.

You will mentor and support graduates.

You will liase with clients, local authorities, trunk road authorities and others to work towards a coordinated design solution.

You will manage the project and take responsibility for financial reporting.

You will need to have a Degree in Civil Engineering with at least five years’ experience in Trunk Road scheme design development plus you will be either CHARTERED OR INCORPORATED as a Civil Engineer.

Experience of managing other team members.

Experience in the preparation and publication of draft road and compulsory purchase orders.

Experience in preparing procurement and contract documents for innovative forms of contract for major road schemes.

You should have experience of the application of DMRB requirements.

Good communication skills are essential to be able to deal with clients and the professional team. Also experience of liaising with the client, road authorities and the public in technical forums and at public exhibitions is preferred.
